About Development Support Team

Development Support Team (DST) was established in response to the newly emerging needs and expectations of the civil society sector. Many organisations, engaged in the field of multifaceted development, were established in the country in the 80s. However, these well-meaning organisations needed support for programme design, organisational management, training, documentation, monitoring and other technical aspects.

To provide this support, DST was formed to provide need based, ongoing and participatory support that would enable the organisations to operate effectively and efficiently. A group of like minded people which included social workers, development professionals, academicians and development practitioners came together and formed DST.

Thematic areas

NGOs have power to bring change in the lives of women and the poor. These are the areas where DST focuses its support.

  • Climate change mitigation, impact of climate change on health

Working with NGOs, networks and government agencies on climate change issues, promoting resilience and mitigation measures — including consultations on women’s health in the context of climate change.

  • Natural resource based rural livelihoods

Promoting climate resilient agriculture, native seeds and allied livelihood activities with small NGOs and the farmers they work with.

  • Gender equality and women empowerment

Supporting women’s groups through training and linkages, and strengthening Self Help Groups and their federations, including their financial planning and literacy.

  • Disaster management

Relief and rehabilitation since the 1993 Latur earthquake — through the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, the 2005 and 2006 Maharashtra floods, the 2019 western Maharashtra floods and the 2025 Maharashtra floods.
